Conducts an Alfvén concert in Oslo.
1942
Radio broadcast of a festival concert at the Opera on the occasion of his 70th birthday. First movement of Symphony No. 5.
1944
Festival Overture for the first concert in the newly-built theatre and concert hall in Malmö. Music for the film “Mans kvinna”.
1945
Alfvén house in Tibble ready. Medallion “For services to music”. En bygdesaga (A Country Tale) – suite from the music to the film “Mans kvinna”.
1946
Publishes the first part of his memoirs, “The First Movement”. S. E. Svensson’s biography of Alfvén is published. Saa tag mit Hjerte(So take my heart).
1947
With OD in Finland – Last OD Tour. Edits volume five of the collection “Svenska Sångarförbundets Ficksångbok” (“The Swedish Male Choir Association’s pocket anthology”).
1948
Publishes the second part of his memoirs “Tempo Furioso”.
1949
Publishes the third part of his memoirs “Major and Minor”. Music to the film “Singoalla”.
1952
Publishes the fourth and final part of his memoirs “Finale”.Symphony No. 5 completed and performed on this 80th birthday. Journey to Italy during the summer.
1953
Copyright problems with different arrangements of melodies fromMidsommarvaka (Swedish Rhapsody and Schwedenmädel). OD’s 100th anniversary.
1954
First Swedish stereo-recording of classical music: Alfvén conductsMidsommarvaka and Suite from the Mountain King. Siljan Choir’s 50th anniversary. Dalarna’s Cultural Preservation Association’s medal.
1955
Affirmative decision in the “Schwedenmädel” case both in Sweden and Germany. Dalarna’s composers award 3,000 Sw.Kr.
1956
Carin dies.
1957
Den förlorade sonen (The Prodigal Son) completed and performed on his 85th birthday. Alfvén himself conducts a recording of the concert suite from the ballet. Directs the Siljan Choir for the last time.
1958
Stricken by a cerebral haemorrhage in May. The Hugo Alfvén Society is planned. New ballet (Björn Holmgren) onMidsommarvaka.
1959
Marries Anna Lund. Interviews with Per Lindfors broadcast (later published as a book). Last visit to the Royal Opera: sees Den förlorade sonen in the company of singers from the Siljan Choir.
1960
Receives OD’s medal for 50 years of membership. Dies on May 8 after a further haemorrhage. Buried at Leksand cemetery on a slope down towards the Siljan Lake.
